 | 11th Oct 2006 | Bord Na Mona Peat Bog Railways
The Bord na Móna was established to develop Ireland‘s peat resources in the immediate post War years, it is now active across a range of peat based and other industries, Bord na Móna supplies peat as a fuel for the generation of electricity. There are a massive network of narrow guage lines over Ireland.
Locations visited where Killinthomas, Derrycricket, Clonmeen, Ballykillen & Derrygreenagh Works. Permission was sought from employees on site before entering, a friendly bunch of lads to whom a good chit chat was had, all pics took on 19/04/08.

The above tour ran on 05/04/08 utilising 8113 and ex Gatwick set, running from Belfast Central - Dublin - Bangor - Antrim (via Crumlin) - Belfast (via Crumlin) - Ballymena - Belfast. Due to problems with the generator car this was unable to do a 2nd trip toDublin, many thanks to Ian Walsh & stewards for running this trip.

Covers the seasonal beet traffic which could soon disappear if the EU have their way!
*** A very sad day 15/03/06 - Greencore announced it was closing the last Beet processing plant in Ireland at Mallow in May with the loss of 330 jobs - We knew the beet traffic would go but not this soon - R.I.P. Beet***

 | 18th Nov 2004 | Irish Rail "A" Class
Built by Metropolitan Vickers (Dunkinfield) between 1955-56 these Locos originally had a Crossley HSTV8(1200hp) engine fitted but this proved unsuccesfull and were rebuilt at Inchicore between 1968-71 with a General Motors 12-645E(1325hp).
60 were built and numbered 001/060 with a max speed of 75mph, withdrawn mostly in early 90's 3 have been preserved with 015 still retained by Iarnrod Eirerann.

18 were built in 1976 by General Motors (Illinois,USA) and fitted with a General Motors 12-645E3C (2475hp) engine, Numbered between 071 and 088 they have a Max Speed of 90mph, all currently still in service.

18 were built in 1976 by General Motors (Illinois,USA) and fitted with a General Motors 12-645E3C (2475hp) engine, Numbered between 071 and 088 they have a Max Speed of 90mph, all currently still in service

 | 15th Nov 2004 | Irish Rail Class 121
Built in 1960 by General Motors (Illinois USA) originally they had a GM 8-567CR (950hp) engine fitted but as time went on they recieved engines from withdrawn 201(C) Class and Class 141.
15 were built with a Max speed of 75mph.
123 has now been scrapped with 124 & 134 now withdrawn, now no more on the mainline (for now?)

37 were built by General Motors (Illinois USA) in 1962 and originally recieved a GM 8-567CR (950hp) engine but as time went on they were interchanged with withdrawn "C" Class(201), Classes 121 and 181. They have a Max speed of 75mph.
Left in service are 141 142 144 146 147 152.

In service are 162 171 175 177 whilst 163, 167, 173 are on local pilot duties.

A cracking day out....7 Loco's for €50...Well done the lads from Waterford.

The MRSI ran a tour from Belfast which was routed via Connolly - Rosslare - Waterford Limerick Jcn - Kildare - Connolly & Belfast Central.
Loco's
8113 Belfast Central - Connolly.
080 Connolly - Rosslare - Waterford.
074 Waterford - Limerick Jcn - Kildare - Connolly.
8113 Connolly - Belfast Central.
The tour utilised 6 Mk2's from the RPSI fleet.

 | 13th Oct 2004 | Railtour - Farewell To The 121s (Sligo)
On 16th July a charity train was run Dublin to Sligo and return utilising the last 2 Class 121 (124 & 134) Locos soon to be withdrawn(?), Iarnrod Eireann, Railway Children & Rail magazine were the participants.
Just under €10,000 was raised for the Railway Children Charity which will fund a project in India for 1 year. WELL DONE to all organisers.

Route for Rosslare Rambler was Waterford - Rosslare - Waterford (Loco Change from 134 & 190 to 112). Waterford - Limerick via Lavistown Loop, Kildare, Ballybrophy, Nenagh( Loco Change from 112 to 172 & 190). Limerick - Waterford via Cahir (Chunkrail in the chair for last leg) Top marks for all the Waterford Crew involved!

This pics were taken on 25/09/04 when Irish class 121 (124) was organised to haul a special from Waterford to Rosslare and return (incl Turntable at Rosslare)to coincide with Rosslare farewell to 121's,Craverns plus Waterford's 150 celebrations (Well Done to Waterford 150 Committee!)
